A lot or us have a lack of saliva which causes tooth problems, also mouth ulcers and infections are not uncommon if your immune system is squiffy.

Clean you teeth once or twice a week with bicarb to keep these at bay.

i have dreadful mouth ulcers keep coming and going - never really go away - i rinse my mouth out with Corsodyl - its about the only thing that works for me

Ulcers and gum problems can also be a side effect of some drugs - azathioprine and MTX certainly produced this effect on me.

I use hot salt water mouthwashes, recommended by by dentist (and cheap)!

I would agree withThaddeus, bicarbonate of soda. I put a bit in my hand and dip my toothbrush in it before i squeeze the toothpaste on. I have never had mouth ulcers but i did get leasions on my tongue. I haven't had any problems with my mouth for ages. It was my dental hygenist who told me to use bicarbonate.

My gums bleed terribly. I see my dentist every 6 months and she says apart from bleeding my gums are healthy. She thinks it's a combination of the Meds & the MCTD

I will try the bicarb, but I have Oral Daktarin for mine seems to work a little better than some.

Doc told me to try taking sips of water my problem is just inside my lips they are red raw

However i think its bit of the Meds we take and our immune system. but i will try the Bicarb its worth a try.

I have lichen planus which is mouth and gum disease caused by the immune system and SLE. For the soreness in my mouth I am prescribed Betnesol tablets which you just disolve one tablet in 15-20 mls of warm water and then hold in your mouth for 5 minutes. These certainly help with the soreness and were prescribed by my GP. Maybe worth a try.

Hi there. I've had problems with a sore tongue for a good while now although I've just been diagnosed with Sjogrens Syndrome secondary to SLE. I find using mouthwashes too painful personally and they seem to make the sore tongue worse rather than better. I found a good natural remedy recently that's worth giving a go: I've always tended to use warm salt water as a mouthrinse and gargle but read about the benefits of sage and thyme. I made up basically a tea using fresh sage and thyme and also added seasalt - so it was effectively a salty, herby warm mouthwash. I only used this for a couple of days before I actually found my tongue was much less sore and more 'normal' looking. I can't guarantee that this would help anything really serious going on in your mouth but it's worth a try. I think sage has been used for teeth and mouth preparations for many years.

I get mouth ulcers and gingivits, I also have a mild problem with dry mouth. I am sure some of my medications play a part. I see my dentist every 6 months and she treats me very gently because my gums bleed easily. I use floss and an electric toothbrush.

I have a lot of problems with my mouth, I was sent to Addenbroks dental department were a biopsy was done and it came back that I have lichen planus which is a autoimmune problem, I was given a steroid mouth wash and my dentist now see's me every year if not more often. I have found when my mouth/lips are saw I use bonjella at times just to stop them stinging so much, I have also found that I have to watch out for spicy food as that can really hurt :( it's a shame as I love spice foods. I hope you feel better soon xx

Hi there I also have Raynauds, Sjogrens, thyroid, etc., etc., many mouth ulcers, sore tongue, did try corsydol but bad reaction, am now using Biotene toothpaste and gel for dry mouth, which is working but too late to save my teeth which over period of time i have been rapidly losing through gum disease and abcess, my poor dentist just hates it when i phone.

But wishing you good luck with all these remedies that everyone has offered
